Site of Recently Removed Chest Port

We include this as an entity only because of the frequency of its misinterpretation.

The majority of PET/CT patients will require a chest port. When removed, the pocket in the chest wall will frequently appear as an ill-defined soft tissue density, which can be intensely avid, if inflamed or infected.

The diagnosis is made by both location and by patient history (on rare occasion, this may require a phone call to the referring physician or patient to elicit the proper history).
