Anterior Mouth

It is very common to see very focal and very intense uptake along the anterior aspect of the mouth, in the region of the anterior tongue.

This normal finding is usually attributed to muscle activity involving the anterior tongue, although it sometimes reflects physiologic uptake in the sublingual glands or dental/periodontal disease associated with the overlying mandible.

Unless accompanied by a soft tissue abnormality on the co-registered CT images, this uptake should be considered normal.
